Here are a couple tips …. if the shop that you are considering doesn’t have the word “Transmission” as part of the business name, it is likely they are not a real transmission shop and a general auto mechanic instead. If a repair shop suggests that it is better to replace your transmission instead of rebuilding or repairing the original transmission. Odds are they don’t have the expertise to rebuild your original transmission. If you are looking for a shop that is a transmission specialist, remember these helpful tips.
When should you replace your transmission?
Simply put… NEVER. It is always best and costs less to repair or rebuild your original transmission. Even in a situation when a transmission has a broken housing for example, many parts inside the original transmission will be good and can be reused again. When replacing your whole transmission with a reman you are buying parts and pieces that you don’t need and already own inside your original transmission that never fail.
How much does it cost to replace my transmission?
When buying a replacement/remanufactured transmission you are buying many transmission parts to make a complete replacement transmission assembly. At A-Affordable Transmissions Center we give you credit for what is good inside your original transmission and only replace the transmission parts that are worn and damaged. Even when we install one of our “Remanufactured” transmissions that we have in stock into a car or truck, the customer receives credit for the good parts inside the original transmission.
Repairing or rebuilding your existing transmission is typically less expensive than buying a new one. Many sections of the original transmission are still serviceable even if some of its individual components have been damaged. Buying new components that you already have will be wasted if you replace the whole unit.
Does A-Affordable Transmissions Center sell remanufactured transmissions?
Your original transmission is disassembled, and an internal inspection is performed to determine what is good and what needs to be replaced. We then determine an accurate cost to rebuild/remanufacture/overhaul your original transmission to the latest industry standards. When we have a remanufactured transmission in stock for your auto, we will only install one of our remanufactured transmissions to speed up the repair process for the customer, to get the vehicle back to our client as promptly as possible, with the customer’s approval of course.
Rebuilt vs Remanufactured, which is better?
Here are some things to consider… remanufactured transmissions typically cost more. When a transmission is remanufactured, in most cases several technicians are rebuilding individual components of the transmission, increasing labor costs of assembly. Each technician is focused on one portion of the transmission’s internal parts and then in the end the transmission is assembled by one person. I am sure you have heard of the phrase “too many cooks in the kitchen”, well more cooks more margin for error. When you rebuild your original transmission, you have one or two technicians working on your car or truck. Technician has a personal attachment to the job because they see it from beginning to end. The technician sees the customer and the vehicle and has a direct feel and personal attachment to what needs to be done to make sure the vehicle operates properly after completion of repairs. A technician tests the vehicle before the transmission is removed and then after repair, installs the transmission. Once the transmission is installed the technicians test the auto, to make certain the transmission functions correctly after completion of repairs.
